Writing clarifies thinking.
I can hold an idea in my head and think I understand it. But when I try to write it down, I discover the gaps in my understanding. The act of converting thoughts to words forces precision.
Writing as a Tool
I don't write because I have something to say. I write to discover what I think. The process itself is the point.
This is why:
- I write notes that no one else will read
- I explain concepts to myself in documentation
- I maintain this blog even though my audience is small
The value isn't in the output—it's in the process.
A Practice
Writing is like exercise for thinking. The more you do it, the better you get at it. Not just at writing, but at thinking clearly.
So I try to write. Every day, a little bit. Even if it's just a thought.
